We continue our description of the tours of the Moscow Industrial project, which are held as part of the International Urban Forum.
The “Channel with stormy energy: the past and present of industrial Yauza“ tour is a unique route from Inna Krylova dedicated to the area around the Yauza River.
We visited the buildings of the legendary Kristall plant, where a new life of craft production, museums, and antique shops is in full swing.
Moscow State Wine Warehouse No. 1 (the future Kristall plant) opened on the Yauza in 1901 after the introduction of a state monopoly on the production and sale of alcoholic beverages. The main plant building was built in 1899–1900 to a design by Nikolai Faleev, a Moscow master of Art Nouveau. It included an office, a washing department, a bottling department, filters, an elevated tank, a boiler room, and a power station.
The World Automobile Museum boasts the largest collection of retro cars in Moscow. It shows the earliest car: a Buick Model F of 1908, as well as cars from the era of The Great Gatsby: a Rolls Royce from 1929 and a Cadillac V8.
There are works by street mural artists on display on the territory of the Kristall plant. Among them, a special place is occupied by paintings by the Moscow artist Zoom.
The Moscow Industrial project was prepared by the Government of Moscow’s Complex for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations as part of Moscow’s Industrial Quarters program for the comprehensive development of former industrial zones, in partnership with the CENTER Lab International Urban Laboratory.
